Bull City Running Co. was established in September 2008 and is one of the greatest adventures of our lives. It is proof and inspiration that you can chase down a dream and make it happen – regardless of age or finances. Our grand opening was marked by our daughter’s first birthday and the beginning of the worst global economic crisis since the Great Depression. We credit the enthusiastic support and encouragement from the community for keeping us afloat and we look forward to helping you achieve your fitness goals for many years to come!

A shared love of running is what brought us together. We met at the El Pueblo 10K Road Race in Carrboro, NC in 2001. Jason has been a competitive distance runner since high school, where he ran for Millbrook High School in Raleigh and won the NC State Cross Country Championship as a Junior (but choked it away his Senior year). He went on to be a 4-year letterman in track and field and cross country at UNC-Chapel Hill. Kim came all the way from British Columbia, Canada to attend UNC-Chapel Hill on a Morehead Scholarship where she took up running as a lower-impact sport after one too many broken bones on the rugby field. In 2002, Jason & Kim moved to Oregon where Jason completed his MBA at Willamette University and was an assistant coach for the cross country and track teams. We also had an opportunity to work for a wonderful local running store in Salem, OR that helped lay the foundation for our own store. We returned to NC in 2004 where Kim completed her MPH at UNC-Chapel Hill. Before opening the shop, Jason worked for the City of Raleigh, and Kim still works at Duke University (but we both cheer for the Tar Heels!). In September 2007, we welcomed our daughter, Elodie Katherine, into the world, making the Bull City Running Co. the second greatest adventure of our lives.
